LomSeminar small 4What are the major challenges of regional integration in West Africa and how they can be determined by the different institutions and actors of the process? These are the most important issues that have been the subject of the rigorous analysis during the training seminar: "The Challenges of Regional Integration in West Africa and in the World” from June 24 to 28, 2013, in Lomé, Togo, in the headquarter of the West African Development Bank (BOAD), organized.by the West Africa Institute (WAI) in partnership with the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA) The event was organized under the patronage of the Ministry of State, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in cooperation with the Republic of Togo which is a one of the co-founder countries of ECOWAS.

The main objective of the training was to strengthen the capacity of managers and those in charge of the structures of the regional integration process in West Africa, of administrators, policy makers, entrepreneurs and organizations of civil society and media.

The result of the five days of training allows the IAO to say that participants received the necessary tools to identify the obstacles to regional integration in West Africa and to participate effectively in the development of regional integration institutions, integrating institutional, economic, social and cultural factors, being trained by highly qualified experts, coming from West Africa and the European Union. TLomSeminar small 10he participants emerged from the seminar with a better understanding of texts concerning legislation and regulations of ECOWAS and will certainly serve as a relay for wider distribution and greater dissemination of this knowledge.

Indeed, despite the significant progress made by the institutions and structures of regional integration in West Africa, a significant divide remains between the current and the desired situation due to political, economic and institutional constraints. One of the major founding reasons of WAI has been to consider these challenges and to propose new alternatives. And it is in this context of this multitude of challenges that impact the near or remote future process of implementation of regional integration that the seminar has been held in order to revive the debate on the challenges of integration and to highlight its essential character within the current context of a changing world, because it is not always easy for stakeholders to understand all the dimensions and issues of regional integration and to propose new alternatives.

The seminar was held at a time when Africa is facing a multitude of challenges impacting near or far the process of implementation of regional integration and helped revive the debate on the issue of integration, highlighting its essential character in the current context of the changing world , because it is not always easy for stakeholders to understand in all dimensions and challenges of regional integration and to propose new alternatives to transcend them.
